With the upcoming unfortunate death of Flash by the end of this year, let's all discuss/recommend some of our favorite new or old classic Flash games
As someone who played Flash games from 2006 when I was very young all the way until now where I still play them, I've come across some great games, some of which have made their way into my heart forever.
I'll start with a masterpiece that changed my life.
Wasted Youth, Part 1 is a very well-made Flash game for its time, based off of an old PlayStation game called Bully. Wasted Youth or WY for short was created in 2011 and it was originally meant to be a short British parody of South Park, however the developer got very attached to this project and decided to keep only one of the characters looking like an actual South Park character and he soon changed most aspects of the game so it's way different than what he originally had in mind. All of the other characters were redesigned and each of them has a unique personality. The NPCs all have different things to say during different periods of the day which I think is awesome. He then made the game a lot lot lot longer than he originally wanted to, making it so long, that he had to split it into 2 parts.. Without any major spoilers, let me tell you more about this amazing piece of work.
The main premise of the game is to do missions for other students and your teachers in a boarding school for special kids which has some weird sh*t happening, there are 16 Main Missions which advance the story, and 13 Side Missions which you can do to complete achievements for fun to unlock extra content like different outfits for the Player Character, concept art of the game, the game's biography, some emails between the developer and his brother while they were working on the game and much more. There are also 50 guinea pig cards hidden around the school called Piggymon cards (Which is an obvious Pokémon parody), can you find them all ? There are 60 achievements to complete and over 70 rooms to explore in this massive boarding school. And there are also tons of mini-games like safe breaking, lock picking and more.
The characters are my favorite part of this game and I have been obsessed with this series since 2012. I am still patiently waiting for Part 2 of the game which will be in 3D since Flash will die. The developer is doing a great job and I hope he is having fun continuing this masterpiece of a series. My favorite characters are Xerxes the goth boy, Joey the psychic boy, Dave who is the Player's best friend, Chris who is very lazy and the Player character himself. Most people hate the art style of this game because "OMG the characters have no eyes its so scary!!1! They r sO UGLy!!!!!!!", but I find the lack of eyes cute because they all look like little aliens. I have drawn a lot of fan-art of this game and the style is easy to master, which is great. I recommend making a doodle in this game's style yourself if you're an artist, it's so fun to draw the characters. I even made my own characters. There is 10. If you want to hear about them, tell me and I will link my Newgrounds here which is full of only blog posts about these characters.
Sadly there is an ongoing issue with the game right now because the old sponsor site the source files were hosted on bit the dust in February, making the game unplayable after the Identification mission as it appears to be bugged due to missing source files.. I alerted the dev about this issue on Newgrounds and he said he'll try his best to update the game for everyone to play and enjoy again If you wish to have an example though, I have a game-play of this precious game on my YouTube, but I swear a lot.. If you are okay with such language, feel free to watch through my playlist. There are only 12 parts right now because I cannot continue due to the Identification mission bug, but once it's fixed I'll continue playing .. (Excuse my Finnish/slightly Russian accent, sometimes it's not very understandable what I'm saying due to it)
I highly recommend this game if you're a fan of South Park, Bully or a game that came out recently called Kindergarten (Which is in fact a copy of WY and it stole all the fame, sadly)
I will post more Flash games from my childhood or just ones that are general favorites in this thread soon, feel free to share yours so I can check them out!!

Ahh this thread brings a lot of memories! I used to roam the web in search for interesting SWFs with games, animations and even weird films - probably visited a lot of bad places with viruses in the process... I preferred to download the games to my computer than to play in browser, and I used to have a big collection of many awesome flash games. Sadly it's gone now, and I really regret I deleted that folder...
It's sad to see Flash go. If you didn't know you can actually download a standalone flash player so that you can play games without needing the browser or its flash plugin! This standalone EXE version is called "Projector". Just go to Adobe's site here www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/debug_downloads.html It says that the downloads are for developers only, but that's a lie, because there you can get the player. Just click the one that says "Download the Flash Player projector" or use this link
To save games from many sites you can use "Tools -> Page Info" in Pale Moon or Firefox (at least in old versions). Then choose the "Media" tab, find the .swf file and click "Save as...". Some games, like on Newgrounds, are protected and won't let you do that. But most of the time it works! Then you just need to associate SWF files with the Flash Projector you downloaded, and you can enjoy flash games without browser or network connection!
Wasted Youth is the greatest name ever for a game that takes place in school! I never played these games and didn't know anything about them actually, this is all new to me! They look very stylish and interesting, I'll be sure to take a look.
I can't remember which flash games I liked from the get-go, at least not their names (mostly). It was so long ago... So I'll go with descriptions for now, and will add the titles later when I find them again on the net!
- There was a series of fighting/shooting games in red-black gamma where you could choose a lot of weapons, it was very advanced and had great graphics... Can't rememebr the name, I think that before these games there was actually a series of gory flash cartoons with the same characters. EDIT: apparently it's Thing Thing Arena, but I think there were more similar games.
- That game where you had to clean up your room of weed, condoms and your drunk friends before your parents come from downstairs to see how you're doing!
- Canabalt, a scroller platformer game with great music and graphics. It's nice but kind of annoying when you keep ramming into things, ruining your score...
- A game where you sit in a classroom and have to stealthily copy the answers from a nerd to pass the test. It had a top-down perspective and the characters were drawn as circles. In later levels a terrorist attack occurs and you have to escape the school alive. Nice game! EDIT: The Classrom, play here !
- The Torture Game, 666games.net/Violent/Flash/Play/601/The_Torture_Game_2.html . Violent and sick game, certainly not for everyone. But sometimes it's fun too!
- Not really games, but funny programs like the one where you could make your own rock song (it also had weird cutscenes with The Dude from Postal 2). And the "Make your own South Park avatar" program! (wait, maybe that one wasn't in flash but in java... hmm)
I'll edit this post as I remember more games! I also like animations like the famous trippy "Flashback" (it's a bit scary in the beginning, watch out for the loud sounds!) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flashback_(Flash_animation)

All I would play when I was younger were dressup games and just generally "girly" type stuff, but one game that really sticks out to me was the Gretel and Hansel series. Both games were pretty gruesome with a lot of ways to die but the gorgeous water color style and interesting take on the story was so unique. Probably not something a child should be playing but that didn't stop me. Unfortunately it seems like the second game is bugged... I hope it gets fixed soon. No word on a third game either, and the last one was released in 2010. I love flash games with a lot of hard work put into them and lots of things to do, Wasted Youth sounds amazing and I'm super surprised at how jam packed it is with content. The style is also really cute! Whenever people say they can't get into something because of the ugly style I just don't get it. What's not to like about those alien eyes? You should definitely link your Newgrounds btw sivuliike , I'd love to read about your OCs. Also... does anyone else remember the Nickelodeon clickamajigs? I swear they were my favorite things ever! They were little bite-sized flash games from the early 2000's where you'd just click things just to see what it would do. Doesn't sound very exciting in words but as a kid with a short attention span they were the best things on earth. It's so hard to find all of them online now, there are a few reuploaded to DeviantArt like the Black Licorice one which scared the pants off me when I was little! The others are all swf files that you can download and play. Here's a link to a masterpost of them from Tumblr if you decide to check them out! Not sure if they all still work or not but fingers crossed. ^_^

I must confess I remember playing some dress-up games too I love those little Nickelodeon games, thanks for the link January0! They should work fine I think, I have some ancient SWFs made with macromedia flash 9, 10 or 11 (back when it wasn't even bought by adobe), and they still seem to do fine when loaded by Flash 32 player. I played a chemistry set game from that tumblr link, and it made me remember another mixing game where a poor bartender gets to taste your attempts at making the perfect cocktail! The Right Mix - www.crazygames.com/game/bartender-the-right-mix !

macabre and January0, thank you for reminding me of Torture and Hansel & Gretel! I absolutely adore the website Stickpage, made for a bunch of stick figure games and animations and et cetera. I never watched any of the animations though, I just played the games My favorites were: StickRPG - top-down city RPG where you play as a stick living his daily life. It got a sequel that greatly expanded on the concept but I never played it as much. Interactive Buddy - not really a stick game, and it is on many, many other websites, but it's still on StickPage. I think you all know how this game works Stick-Strike - maybe I was a dumb kid and bad at games but I remember this little top-down shooter being one of the more difficult games on Stickpage. Still, the way everything flowed and the gameplay just felt great to me Combat Tournament Legends - probably my favorite flash game ever. Super stylish and high-speed action-packed combat using stick characters, all with different weapons and ways of fighting. I remember really enjoying playing as YoYo. Rediculas - ridiculous Rock Hard Coliseum - sounds like the title of a gay porno. It's not really a game as much as it is a collection of stick fight animations with a few QTEs if I remember correctly, and you can also bet on who will win. If your bet was victorious for every fight then you would get to choose the characters who would be in Rock Hard Coliseum 2, but that never came out. There's probably some other games that I didn't play as much but were still great. These are the ones that did, and still do, stick out to me the most.

I think I recall playing a fighting game with stick figures at some point! Though maybe it was made by some other author in my case. Speaking of sites, I just remembered HOSHI SAGA games: hoshisaga.jp/ These are simple, but beautiful puzzle games where your only objective is to find a star. Oiche Mhaith - ded.increpare.com/~locus/oiche_mhaith/ This game is kinda depressing and creepy, I remember playing it once. There was also another creepy and artsy one where you had a series of point-and-click minigames like finding a fruit on a tree, and once you click on it, all the birds on that tree would fall off and die. Can't remember what it was called. I also like the flash game based on the movie "300" though I haven't watched the film. It's pretty simple but I thought the design and gameplay were enjoyable.

Could that game be Feed the Head? I dont think the fruit tree part was in it (or I just don't remember) but it made me think of that.

No, I don't think so, I don't remember it beginning like that. Nice game though!
That game also had a rock-paper-scissors stage, plus some phone calls. Yes, I think it actually had you dial a phone number to play another minigame, and you learn new numbers as you play! Wasn't it called PHONE? Perhaps it was...

Thank you all for the wonderful links and suggestions Some of these brought back great memories and others have acquired my interest
@macabre , I agree!! Wasted Youth is a perfect name for a game that's connected to school. The dev, Tom, had a lot of problems trying to name the game, it went through many name changes while it was still being created, like The School Game, Closed School, Hell Academy, etc.. In the end he stopped on Wasted Youth. It shares a name with some music band(s?) so whenever I talk about this game elsewhere people think I'm talking about the bands.. That's how underrated it is.
I remember The Classroom and The Torture Game! I used to play those in IT class all the time because nobody had anything to do lmao. Glad my teacher doesn't care what we do on our PCs all that much I also remember Thing Thing Arena!! The game had a ton of series/different parts and in the last one I think you could even customize your hero. It was quite similar to one of the most popular flash movies and games series called Madness (which was primarily featured on Newgrounds mostly), with small gray guys that had pluses as faces and shot and killed each other violently in any situation ever
I remember the South Park avatar maker too! I think they're still updating it?? I'm 70% sure it used to be Flash but it was converted to Java later??.. I haven't went on the site for over 3 years now, maybe I'll see how it's doing later
@january0, that's very valid!! I love dress-up games and I still play them.. For some reason they are relaxing to me. I loved those click-and-drag ones where you have to apply the clothes on the character by yourself. The way I primarily create OCs these days actually is a dress-up game, but it's extremely advanced. It's by a Japanese artist named Pochikou and the name is Minna no Kisekae (Everyone's Dress-Up/みんなの着せ替え!). Beware if you look it up though, prepare to have Ad-blocker on because it has obnoxiously annoying hentai/sexual ads which are not the best thing to be plastered on your screen if you just want to make a damn character in peace . And fair warning the game itself can get kind of inappropriate, because when you click on their clothes a few times you take them off (And you can put them back on via the shirt and pants tabs). The good thing about this is that you can remove the nipples and genitalia from the settings if you're doing a naked humanoid that's not nude for a sexual reason (like an alien or monster-girl or something?).. Other than that you can mimic many styles even if they're not anime, like a cartoon network show with an easy-to-copy style. Besides, the customization options are INSANE!! You can even make your own stuff like props or shirt/head decorations with some experience. It's great for OCs and that's how I've made most of mine. Here are some examples:
Also, I am very glad you agree !!!! WY's developer worked on the game nonstop for 18 months and he did it all by himself. His brother Rich only helped with the script and personalities of some of the characters. It's fascinating how much they got done, I was actually surprised the game was this long when I replayed it around August last year. When I first played in 2012 I quit after the Race Car mission because I couldn't beat it lmao.. Strongly regret not completing this masterpiece earlier. The game has barely ever had a fandom or any fan-art either, the only ones I seen that aren't mine or from my friends Vain, Salmon and Ali are from a Russian boy named Pasha who has been in the tiny tiny tiny micro-fandom ever since the beginning. I am glad you want to hear about my OCs!! Here is my blog that contains almost nothing but stuff about them (There's fan-art and stuff of some Canon Characters as well). I recommend starting from the very last blog since it's the first one I've made, then consecutively going up to the newer ones (Here's a direct link to Blog #1, it has inserted links to some of the other blogs but there's some I haven't inserted because I haven't updated for a while now). I spent a lot of time developing these characters and I've never dedicated this much attention to any of my 200+ OCs before.. So my WY OCs are very special to me
Also oh my Godddd, I remember playing Clickamajigs when I was very young!! I played them with my cousin and the Black Licorice scared us to death lmao. I think the scariest one is that freaking baby. The alien Clickamajig was also really cooL! And the Family Photo one. Clickamajigs were so awesome and unique.. I really liked how tiny all of them are as well.
recidivist you just woke up my entire childhood by linking Interactive Buddy :").. That little guy was one of my favorite 'buddy/pet/virtual friend' type of game for years. I don't like the new one/the reboot, but the original is a blessing. I remember there was a Teletubby skin it was my favorite to torture . And my favorite skin was Gregor the Goth. I remember he's the only one I didn't hurt and bash around because I liked the way he looks. I just played the radio for him and watched him dance and I used to play catch with him using those baseballs the game has.. So many memories... Thank you for the other links too, I will check them out!!
I used to play a lot of those stickman games as well! One I remember I used to really love was called "Shoot'm" or something among those lines where you have to hurt a stickman with guns and various other weapons to get money and buy upgrades. The most interesting thing is that sometimes the stickman can outsmart the player's shots by dodging from side-to-side or by rolling instead of just standing there and allowing itself to get shot
and also again @ macabre, I love Hoshi Saga!! This series was also a childhood gem .. There's a lot of games in the series and there's still stages my little pea brain cannot pass or figure out lol. Some of the stages are so well-made and creatively thought of, it's fairly amusing!!
I will prepare my next post to this thread in a bit, I found a lot of good Flash games I used to play and still do. Thank you all for your awesome contributions so far!!

I haven't went on the site for over 3 years now, maybe I'll see how it's doing later I also think the earlier versions were made in flash! They updated it frequently, and maybe there were some unofficial versions floating around too? At some point they switched to java (probably...), but now it looks like they use HTML5 features or something like that. Hoshi Saga is beautiful in design, but some stages are very difficult, I agree! I don't think I solved all of them either...

Bad Ice-Cream - A classic. A huge classic.. You can pick to be vanilla, chocolate or strawberry ice-cream and you have to collect fruits on small cutesy levels with a nice map design. I think you shoot breath ice and it'll freeze the row/column you're facing, then you can destroy that ice by pressing space bar again by standing next to it. It's a good technique to trap some of the less intelligent enemies The pixel graphics, the simple game-play and the huge variety of enemies are one of the many things that made this game so memorable.. The most memorable thing however was Two-Player Mode. I used to play this on Multiplayer mode with my friend or cousin and we kept screaming at each other when either of us died
Dino Dig - A very fun old game about digging out dinosaur fossils from a quite.. Variable and not-so deep ground. I used to play this almost every day after school when I was like 3rd or 4th grade.. It's really fun and satisfying to clean away the, sand, clay, stone dust and broken quartz after you destroy them with their respective tools. There's many different types of dinosaur fossils to find, about 9 or 10 if I remember correctly. No idea why it's on GirlsGoGames which primarily has dress-up and barbie/Disney stuff lmao
Rolling Tomato - Cutesy styled game about a rolling tomato which has to avoid forks, knives, cheese graters and other kitchen utensils by jumping with the click of your mouse button. I think the site it's on is either Russian or Bulgarian.. Or Macedonian?? I'm not sure, but I think mac might know
Gold Miner - If you haven't played this or a flash game similar to it as a child (since there were lots of bootlegs and copies of this game), was your childhood even real? Just kidding, but my point is, this is one of the most well-known flash game series, especially during the 2007-2012 era. You play as a small old man who has to, well.. Mine some gold!! But in a quite unique way.. You use your left and right arrow keys to move the mine cart and I think either down arrow or space bar was to launch your grappling hook. Up arrow uses a dynamite (if you have any) so you can destroy something you didn't mean to catch (like an explosive barrel or a giant stone).. You can buy stuff from some guy's shop after each level and it's usually good power-ups, but some of them can be pretty useless. Also, you have a timer during every level, so you must collect gold quickly!! It's on the same Russian/Bulgarian/etc. site as Rolling Tomato
Heist - A game slightly similar to Gold Miner, only because you have to collect money and there's a timer or every level, however it's a lot different. If you know the classic mikado sticks game where you have to take away only the sticks on top and you're not allowed to take away the bottom ones until you reach them, that's what this game basically is, but with coins, gems and jewelry instead of sticks. There are a specific number of keys you have to find under the pile of valuables during every level so you can proceed to the next one. You don't even have to collect all the valuables since they're just for score, but if you want to challenge yourself like I do, try and clear the levels of absolutely every valuable before the time runs out. Just make sure you don't forget any keys because I'm not sure if that makes you restart just the level you failed or the whole game.. So I suggest looking for keys first, then collecting all leftover valuables. You may need a good fast clicking hand for this game

That site with Rolling Tomato is in Bulgarian I understand this language a little, it's somewhat similar to Russian. When you talked about rolling tomato I remembered this small game about broccoli trying to escape from chef: www.gamesvine.com/action/RunLilBroccoli/ !

Oh boy, stick-figures & Flash-animation! I remember when they used to be a thing back in the day. Seems like forever now. I even remember back then the Flash-platform used to be owned by Macromedia, not Adobe. As for the stick-stuff, I think my then brother-in-law used to watch Xiao Xiao -series. There was also a similiar series called Stickdeath, I think. They were somewhat inspirational to me, since In the early 2000's I used to make some similar stick animations myself on a old DOS-computer using an obsolete Autodesk Animator version from 1989. I think I still have some of the old material hidden somewhere, and can't really believe now how much I put work into them as a kid. And they've never been published anywhere either. I also remember a very unique point 'n' click style stick-game made with Flash, where you had to solve puzzles, navigate tunnels avoiding some green monster and finally find a blue chest. (with some funky music looping in the background.)
I think it was simply named stickgame.swf, and I don't think I have come across it in more than 15 years. It might be lost forever, since I think it was quite obscure and was hosted on some swf. -index-dump. It even inspired me to make a similar game, which I never finished though.
Yeah, one could say it feels like "an end of an era", but technically-wise it's a good thing they're finally ending Flash, since it's so badly optimized for today's standards. There's a reason that no mobile device uses Flash, since it would instantly drain the battery etc. It's a fun coincidence this thread popped up BTW, since I was revisiting some of my favorite flash-games just a week ago! I even ripped some stuff to preserve to my hard-drive just in case, with the same technique @macabre mentioned here earlier. I also prefer to play the games from desktop, since you can set them to fullscreen and they also run much smoother on older hardware.
The Company of Myself really deserves a mention here. It made a huge impact on me when I found it 10 years ago from Kongregate. It is a good example of how you can play around with player's feelings with storytelling and atmosphere. It also has a prequel called Fixation, which I finished for the first time last week when revisiting the series. It is a much more polished and longer game, but I strongly recommend you play the previous game first.
I've already mentioned his work in another thread before, but I have to bring up Mason Lindroth again. His style is really amazing, and most of his older games are Flash-based.
And finally, here's a weird piece of nostalgia for me. I think it was 2003 when me and my friend found a game called Nanaca Crash somewhere (most likely from AlbinoBlackSheep). I don't know why exactly, but the game can be strangely addicting. Used to play it for hours, always trying to get a better score.
Bonus: sieni.us - a Finnish website that has many "trippy" flash-animations hosted. It was nice to see that it's still up there. (EPILEPSY WARNING!)
Well, there you have it. Hope you enjoyed my rambling & links!
PS. Since Flash is nearing its demise, I hope there will be people who make an effort to preserve the legacy. It's really thanks to the hardworking archivists that so much old and obscure material would have otherwise been lost.

Remembered another game, called Replaying The Game armorgames.com/play/5115/replaying-the-gameMaybe you know this one! It's a series of satyrical, mostly political mini-games and cartoons criticizing some events in the world and in gaming industry of the late 2000s. Back when I first played it, I didn't get some of the stuff because it was so specific to the USA politics.
