Hey does anyone know how difficult it is to get a game on Steam, or what the process involved is? and is it even worth it. I was thinking about publishing a new game on Steam maybe, just as an experiment, and charging 99cents for it. In my mind this will only really be worth it if it get between 2000 and 3000 downloads though, otherwise im going to continue releasing games on my site for free. I don't really need money, but it would still be nice because it would allow me to expand my operations.
So yeah Steam, Iv'e never used it, and I don't even have an account. Is it any good?

Meh
before steam direct there were spambots that would push the game to the store, if not them, you'd had to struggle to get there and you had to pay before posting your games
now you have to pay 100 us dollars before posting, but idk how it works now
it would be a pain in the ass to deal with those who have bugs n stuff, but maybe it is good, idk, if u want to - do it

you probably have to post your game to steam greenlight where it needs to get a lot of likes before it gets in and stuff like that dont know about fines
to be honest just seriously use itch.io, most fans of weird shit go there and indie games get wonderful promotion also (i remember TICKET by magicdweedoo being quite popular there)
also itch io is not made by a colossal money eating machine lolol

On a related note, I was looking at Pax this year. To have a game in the "indie" section costs $1500, pretty costly I think.

You may as well just open a kickstarter so you could pay for the fees, But then you'd have to deal with packaging 50 sunfish posters or some backer rewards.
