Thanks for the film suggestions Wheelman, and also Vilcommen to das forums! I've seen a few Ralph Bakshi flicks. John Krikfalusi (the ren and atimpy animator) harps on about him being an inspiration in some interviews, so that's how i found out about bakshis early "adult", animated movies. The Fireman from the adult season of Ren and Stimpy is based on (and I think voiced by) Bakshi. The episode in question (firedogs 2) has a hell of a lot of toilet humor, so be forewarned if you decide to watch it.

Thanks for the warm welcome Jinxtengu, I stumbled across this forum completely by accident while searching for obscure roms and it has been great so far. Yeah, Ren and Stimpy's adult party cartoon is pretty hit or miss and mostly miss but it was a good omage to put him in. Unfortunately adult party cartoon is pretty bad but I recommend Bakshi's work overall it is pretty good.

hey wheelman, welcome! might aswell recommend some stuff i like even though im not as much of a film buff as you guys. i wont give anything away about the plots so you guys can enjoy it if you watch anything, i mostly like films that are surrounded by a sort of cinematic mysticism so there will be a lot of that: Stalker (1979; russian epic) Samsara (2011; wordless documentary, shot in 30+ states) The King and the Gnome (1980; short wordless czech puppet animation) When the Wind Blows (1986, animation) i also love pretty much anything by George Méliès, the father of cinematography and also a crazy little runt

I just watched World's Greatest Dad, with Robin Williams, I thought it was actually quite good. The only reason I checked it out was that I was checking out films by the same director "Bobcat Goldthwait" who directed Shakes the clown, the best clown based movie besides killer clowns from outer space. Anyway Robin Williams plays a depressing old sad dude very well. I Think his more serious roles were perhaps some of his best. Anyone else seen any other "Bobcat Goldthwait" directed movies? Got any thoughts and feeling?

I didn't know he'd directed any films!
Wonder if he's done any interviews not in-character......

watched a bunch of stuff these past few days, heres a couple reviews: John Dies at the End- comedy about horror and time travel, starts off real good with some nice concepts like a drug that makes you unwillingly travel in time and a good joke hits every two minutes, but then it slows down to a crawl and by the time its at the end, the movie makes no sense and is boring as heck.
Berberian Sound Studio- a horror movie with a really good concept- some sound effect design guy is hired to do a horror movie, which he doesnt usually do, and as he keeps working on it, he slowly goes insane. sounds real good but movie sucks ass. its like somebody watched a work from andrei tarkovski or béla tarr and though that making a slow movie is easy and its instant art, by which i mean the whole movie is just boring shots but there is nothing to elevate those shots like in the works of said previous filmmakers, just a boring lingering view of nothing, very bad movie.
High School (2010)- nice stoner comedy, if youre into that kinda stuff this is a pretty nice stupid ass movie, some top tier student gets high as heck one day and finds out theyre doing drug tests the next day so the best idea of him and his buddy is to get the whole school high, doesnt work quite like you would guess from that description but its entertaining to watch i think. i dont know, honestly after i finished i felt like i was stoned myself, the pace is quite strange.

Has anyone seen “WHat is it” by Crispen Glover (the actor)? I watched it the other day. It’s a movie with alot of down syndrome actors and violence against snails. If you’ve seen it, what did you think of it?

Alice (1988)
I've just watched Něco z Alenky, which is a Czech adaptation of Alice in Wonderland that came out in 1987/1988. I don't know why I never came across this film earlier, since I usually explore pretty much all the Alice-related stuff I can find out there (and there's a lot of films, cartoons and games based on this book of course, predominantly from Japan with varying levels of cheesiness - I remember watching - godawful, in my opinion - Pandora Hearts... bleh). Anyway. This movie is a combination of live action and stop-motion animation, and it's intended to be a darker and more morbid version of the original tale, something like American McGee's Alice, but not quite... Actually I didn't find it as twisted as that game, it's much more subtle - there's no blood or any "gothic" elements (and it's not sexualized in any way), in fact it's supposed to be a film for children, as stated in the very beginning by the main heroine herself. And it's this subtlety that makes it so great. Little puppets made out of bones, skulls and old socks, nails and other sharp objects constantly appearing in the focus together with sweets like jam and cookies... Visually this film is absolutely perfect. The director designed it all to play out like a child's dream rather than a fairy tale - and for me it feels 100% like the dreams I had during the childhood. Also the decorations are good, you often see the old, dusty rooms, walls with crumbled paint and torn wallpaper, dirt, cold concrete/stone floor and various debris everywhere with which Alice interacts... It all reminds me of the grim surroundings I grew up in. It's not a fucked up version of Alice, telling a story of a mentally deranged child. It's more like a story about a lone, troubled child who grew up in Slavic poverty and who is really puzzled about the world around - if that makes any sense... I was worried that the ending might ruin it, and make it too grim - but no, the finale was actually kind of fun!
Verdict - Off with her head! It's a very beautiful and somewhat disturbing movie. You will totally fall in love with it if you're a fan of Yume Nikki. 10/10!

Surf Nazis Must Die (1987)
The title is super ridiculous, but it turned out to be a pretty decent action movie by the infamous Troma. The plot is cheap but with a wicked twist - gang warfare between the eponymous nazi surfers and the rival groups, followed by the bloody revenge enacted on the fascists by a badass black granny. It's quite satisfying to watch. What's not to like?
