Ok this might be a tricky one. I'd like to make some video collages that would involve taking various clips from movies, tv and music and overlapping them onscreen at the same time, maybe being able to drag and drop and stretch them in real-time. Ideally It should be useful for live performances. I was just wondering if anyone knows of any free software which is designed for such purposes?

If you mean layering footage with transparency, I've done that in premiere. but I don't know about any suitable for live performance

I've never done it live (so only used stuff like Premiere / After Effects / Final Cut), but if you search for 'vj software' and maybe add 'linux' to make sure they're free a few things turn up! Freej looks cool if you want to do CLI or scripting www.dyne.org/software/freej/These other ones have GUIs veejayhq.github.io/lives-video.com/sourceforge.net/projects/glmixer/nageru.sesse.net/You could probably do it through an Amiga emulator too. I know they were big for their video mixing for a while. I've heard of people having dedicated hardware for it too. I assume they're kinda MIDI-like things, they have dials and stuff.
