Let's share info about the places where you can listen to the radio via internet. Youtube still didn't kill the "radio star"! So far, I have only two stations to offer: KZSC Santa Cruz, stream links: www.kzsc.org/listen/ . Independent student radio, they play leftfield/underground music of various genres and sometimes have interesting podcasts. "Steal-Kill" Radio, also known as "42fm", link: 42fm.ru/ . Russian radio project, associated with the infamous viral site Upyachka. They seem to focus on old rock/metal music, with occasional weird remixes and jokes thrown in. What stations do you know and listen to?

KZSC also changed their site to an ugly modern layout very recently, though it doesn't really matter when you listen to the stream via foobar or other software player.

Was sorting out my archives, found an .M3U with a working listening URL for Good Vibes Radio: goodvibes.zapto.org:8000/gv.mp3
They specialize in psychedelic music of all kinds. Highly recommended! But don't try visiting their internet address (or DO try, to see a rather concise answer). Just copy the listening URL to your favourite player's radio interface. EDIT: wait, here's their new official site: clearwhitelight.org/goodvibes/ , you can find more options for listening there.

does anyone know What's the bandwith usage for those like? I like the idea of radio, if it's a good station without mindless chitchit and advertising, but my current Internet plan is only 5gb of data a month, and I kinda have to save it for emails, and when I finally have a game to upload.

Most of internet radio streams still come at a very high compression rate - usually it's MP3 @ 128 kbps. Sometimes stations offer a quality choice between bitrate (128 or 192) or format (MP3 or OGG). Since an average 3-4 minute MP3 file with 128 kbps bitrate would only weigh a couple of megabytes, in theory you shouldn't lose much traffic from extensive listening. Of course it's probably not a good idea to be tuned in 24/7. But regardless, it's likely much more cost-effective than listening to music on youtube, considering the radio never uses any tricks to increase your traffic consumption rate.
Plus, the low bitrate doesn't really affect the quality of the stream much.
As far as I know, KZSC had no ads in the past, since it's a public radio station, and this should still apply. They do have some talk in there, but it's mostly the local news and various political discussions. The music they offer is very diverse though, and may not always be to your liking.
Other stations tend to just play music, and nothing more - these are often just remote playlists, and require less bandwidth than live feeds. Shouldn't broadcast any ads either, unless they are big and hungry for money.

Nice. ive tried looking a bit myself, but usually searching up something simple like "internet radio station" just yields very regular nation-wide radio stations, just very generic stuff. Usually actual radio stations that happen to have a presence on the internet with a browser player or something.

Found some stuff listed on a programmer for Nectarine's profile on Nectarine. Most of it seems to be very similar to Nectarine but different in a way. Kohina - pure 8-bit power! SceneSat - HQ scene music with slight focus on psy-trance Slay - all C64, all the time I'll have to check these out myself, but I'll leave them here just incase anyone is interested.

More online radio stations. oldskool.fi - Some Finnish radio. Don't know much about it because I don't know Finnish Kaaos - Another Finnish radio. This one seems to play a variety of things, like chiptune, hardstyle, and chill. Their site is filled to the brim with stuff, so it's sluggish and laggy to load. Irish Pub - Irish music! Originally created just to be played in, of course, Irish pubs, and listened to by pub owners, it is now available to listen to on the internet.

ANybody got any new internet radio stations to show? Ive been listening a lot to Nectarine, the demoscene radio that the guest posted a while ago, and im loving it. I just wonder if theres anything else super good, this thread doesnt seem to have much It was actually me who posted the Nectarine-link! (I wasn't registered here at that point yet..)
This doesn't really have that much to do with radio-stations, but I can't help but bringing this up here. Hopefully you don't mind, dear forum-folks!
Apparently recidivist seems to be into the Finnish demoscene (or demoscene in general), so you should definitely check out PC-Lamerit. I found the series a few years ago when it was still on-going. I was completely blown away!
PC-Lamerit is a low-bit animation series about a group of young hackers in the finnish countryside of the mid-90's. Just before the advent of Internet, when dial-up modems and BBS was still a thing.
It consists of 144 short episodes, split in 9 chapters. (18+ hours in total)
Apparently much of the happenings and themes are inspired by real-life experiences of the the guy who made it. It is a very convincing documentary of the time and place where the story is set! Although there's a bit of exaggeration here and there for comedic effect.
I'm 10+ years younger than the author myself, and wasn't involved in the demoscene, but I vaguely remember the time when we still had a screeching dial-up modem at our house and my big brother used to make calls to BBS's. And I also lived at a similar remote countryside where the story is set.
Some of the appeal of the series is of course due to the nostalgia-factor, and some weird aspects of finnish culture that will probably go over your head if you haven't lived through them. Some of the humor also revolves around different dialects and the "tension" between rural and urban citizens of Finland.
But I must say, that I think the series is truly amazing. The story starts out fairly ordinarily focusing on the daily lives of the nerdy kids of the mid-90's, but it later takes some quite surprising (sometimes even shocking) turns. It's not an overstatement to say that it is an epic piece of work with unbelievable depth. The characters are so well developed that you actually feel their struggles and come to love them.
It does not only do a great job at documenting a real sub-culture and time-period that existed, but it also stands on its own feet as a great story. It is truly a labor of love, and has been a huge creative inspiration for me.
The technical aspect is also interesting to note. It's not only a "retro-styled" aesthetic the animation uses. The whole series actually runs on an engine built in C, and all the music it features are old demoscene-tracks! (Every episode has a list of the tracks used in description. There's even a Soundtrack-Compilation on Nectarine someone has made, but it only has a fraction of the tracks posted as of now. The list used to be more extensive 2+ years ago, but the whole website shut down at one point and I guess the old list disappeared.)
The only problem though is that it's currently available only as YouTube-videos. Every episode has english subtitles available, but of course it would be ideal to have a possibility to change the animated text-prompt from finnish to english. The creator has hinted that there will probably be an interactive version released someday, with all sorts of tweaks and settings.
But all in all, I can really recommend the series to anyone. It goes way beyond from being just a niche-animation. For me, it is one of the greatest works of fiction I've ever had the pleasure to experience.
Thanks!

I love how this art looks! And the fact that this whole series runs on an engine built in C is awesome and 100% authentic. Too many YouTubers try to nostalgiamine and end up using amazing 2010s software and rendering their "old school videos" at 1080p. It hurts to see, and feels so fake. I will have to check out this series. Thank you!
