Social media is a plot to make us documen t every aspect of our lives, leaving an audit trail of our every action and a profile of our personalities. Especially ones like facebook as it actually intends to be a real "us" this is why I determine to use this website in a way only to be a nuisance toit's efficient running and to provide it with as little information about my brain as I can. I think that forums and things like that are quite good however, since it is just people makeing psuedonyms and then talking as they wish so that's nice. Also devious is how facebook use their many members to sign petitions asking for special priveleges and such. I can guarunteee that if facebook were to get the exemptiion from net neutrality that they were petitioning for they would have become enourmous fans of it in regards to the control of all other websites, so that they and only they can broadcast themselves into each device and brain in the earth

seriously though, these forums are the best. I feel like social networks are fucking lame because they never actually work for their primary purpose- nobody discusses or shares anything. shit never gets done, ye know what i mean. i guess its because of their openness, tight communities are where its at.

Well the VC's gotta get the data mining money to make a more attractive IPO offering on Wall Street, and in what is the Hell-On-Earth (AKA Silicon Valley), being an 'innovative' multimillionaire is what matters. i'm sure some websites can defend being spied on as "for your own good". If "Nothing to Fear, Nothing to Hide" was actually true, people would be spreading email accounts/passwords and bank accounts faster than dandelions.

I drank a lot of coffee this morning. yeah I think this place has a good number of members, so I can actually remember their names and who they are. I remember reading something about how humans can only know about 100 people well or something, but I'm pretty sure I have like 500 friends on facebook.

also, in a forum you see the conversations in order, but in a thing like facebook and twitter you see . algorithmically curated feeds of content

I'd write here how people turn to simulacra of themselves by using this social crap, how it makes minds narrow and thoughts short, but I don't even want to go into discussing it - the subject of discussion stinks too much. It's a semiotic and linguistic apocalypse. Yeah man I agree with you there. it's a rabbit hole not to go down, i'd rather talk about fun stuff instead, like games. I have to say though, one cool thing about these forums (one of the many cool things i might add ) is that there's people on here with varied backgrounds and opinions. I'm digging the cosmopolitan vibe. I actually like it when people challenge my ideas. on facehuggerbook it's just all aggregated freaking islands of narcissism being amplified ad-nauseam. Start a zukkerman deadpool someone, please!

I don't really use Facebook a lot. Heck, not even my "artist/musician page" on Facebook is that active either, I only just repost reposts on there. Though I'm sure that the majority of people use it to make hundreds of 'friends', as my own experience is much more different from most peoples, in that in the rare times when I actually use it, I just have a front page full of memes and game engine stuff.
Now that I think, I haven't really used that Tumblr account registered years ago; only used it for essentially 4 posts and 2 reposts lol.

Hey, check this crazy thing out! Facebook, Twitter and all other poopy scoopy social media are used by wait for it... PEOPLE! Facebook is not a horrible brainwashing program that will instantly and unwillingly corrupt your brain into a useless pile of self proclaimed mush. Social media is the way it is because PEOPLE ARE VAIN AND EGOTISTICAL, THEY CRAVE FOR ATTENTION AND RECOGNITION. So yeah all social media and everything really is merely a tool we made for us to use. So if it sucks, it's really our fault on how, why and if we use it. i mean, what else would you do on a social network than post shit from your life. the thing is, on forums like this, that shit is pretty awesome because we all know what the others are talking about but if its just everyone in the world posting shit from their life, it gets stale and boring imo plus, facebook and twitter are just horribly designed (see why above)

I found an addon to firefox that lets you add custom CSS to a page and made it hide the facebook newsfeed which is pretty handy imo. I like using it's chat features because they're better than most sites, but it is annoying to have to go on there and see a heap of distracting junk, but this way I can avoid looking at it. here's the css: #stream_pagelet {display:none}
