Forums, Imageboards, Textboards, Discussion sites, Chatrooms, and all of the Messageboards all under the Messageboard rainbow! What do you think through this lexicographical view of the many Virtual Communities that scatter through all the internet? Is there a reason for joining many? How do you believe in the idea of varying community quality? Find out below!

My dad still remembers and tells us the responses from the different members on some fishing forum when he introduced his fake account 'boating for jesus' to them, which I find very funny, but it also shows that online communities can form into quite real communities. It's ok to join a bunch of different forums and things, but I think that there is probably a limit to how many "communities" you can be a genuine part of. The weakest communities are probably ones like more game development forums are these days where you jump on, post your game, reply to feedback, and leave again until next time you have a game. Probably because there is little to no actual community and relationship between members there. There's also the problem of shit posting and circle jerking. I do like shitposting, but it's way easier to get people to post 100 threads full of trash than it is to get them to do something like the "exquisite corpse" thread which I think is the best thread on here, and in some sites these things can turn into a circle jerk too, though I think the members on here are a bit smart for circle jerking. This site is still getting there imo, but we all seem to be friends, so that's a pretty good start.
