What is an event?

Trust me, I would've much preferred if things didn't have to come to this, but it's time to take a stand. It has now been four months since these forums have gone up, and the quality of the content posted has continued its downwards trend. It's truly hard to imagine how it could be any worse than this. Though I've tried before to find a solution, I realize now that I was way off the mark.
Here's what I've come to offer you today:
A simple question.
What is an event?
An event is something that happens, both in space and in time. Now how does that relate to our current situation? Think of how you interact with the forums. A thread gets created, the subject doesn't much matter, then people interact with it for a short few posts before the thread dies. There are exceptions, but most of them are threads in which interaction between people is very limited, so they're essentially vanity posts that do little to build a community. Such a thread could be termed an event, being that it is an occurrence limited in time due to the inevitability of it becoming inactive, and in space due to it being contained on the webpages.
I believe we should view events more broadly, in the sense that the entire forum should be an event.

You have very interesting ideas for the forum, you should tell more What killed small communities? The answer is obvious: social media. In the age of social media and Twitter, forums are passé and stilted conversations contained in loosely defined threads are no longer enough. The advantage that they however still hold over social media is their unique character and culture, by virtue of their isolation. It is a greater investment to join a forum than to interact with people on Twitter, but if the rewards are lesser then that community will never thrive.
We must change the way we use forums or they will die the merciless death they deserve.
It follows that this must be done:
Kill the thread but allow all languages to be spoken in any thread.
