What steps do you take to project an image of profundity while out in public? I enjoy making sure to be seen reading existential works which I barely understand while riding on public transit, though I mostly just stare at the pages or reread the same sentence over and over. Additionally I've started putting my eyes very close to the computer screen (easy for me to do as I have a MacBook Air which is very lightweight, so I can lay it on my chest) so that very soon I will have to get prescription glasses. Lastly, I never wash my coat so that people will think I have no regard for material things.
How do you guys personally do it? Discuss.

Now this is of course not a serious post, but rather a critique of a behavior that is too commonly seen in society. All of these tips which I've offered could actually be explained in a much simpler manner as being symptoms of a lazy nature, for example it is very hard for me to get around to reading at home where distractions abound, so I try to do as much reading as I can when I'm out, though the noise makes it very hard to concentrate. However, it is easy to become conceited and try to explain away shortcomings and lie to yourself into projecting intentionality in everything you do (though I'm by no means denying the part of free will decisions in developing virtuous habits) and thus ensure stagnation in your personal and intellectual development.
So while I'm not intentionally blinding myself to look cool, such behavior could be said to result directly from what I've described above, something of which I'm too often guilty.
