I'm very interested in this religion since there's apparently a coven located not far from the place where I live, though I don't know whether it's still active or not. I like the simplicity of Wicca's moral system - protecting an individual's choice without resorting to complete rejection of community ("Do what you want, as long as it doesn't hurt others"), and I like the balance between human and nature that it seeks to represent and maintain. I do not know much about it, but I am willing to discuss anything related to Wicca with anyone who's inclined and interested in its practices and traditions. Do you know any good books or other sources where I can learn more about it? Feel free post any useful information.
To those who are critical or cynical of this religion, please remember that nobody is forcing you to participate in this discussion. There's no need to express your objections here, everyone chooses their own path.

yeah I think Wicca is quite cool, my only criticism is that it might not be so effective at defending itself against aggressive social structures. What about Thelema, Crowley's beast?

I don't think Wicca is entirely defenseless - of course it's being picked on quite often, and the coven I mentioned actually had their sacred site vandalized by christians (there are still photos on the internet...), but in general it seems to me that they chose the discreet way of existence, avoiding needless confrontation. There's still enough place in the world for wiccans, but I'm sure they will fight if cornered. It's not a hippie movement after all...
As for Crowley - frankly, I am not fond of him. I tried reading his books, but they didn't spark anything in me. Sure, he had a remarkable personality and his writing style is interesting. But I think that in his pursuit of directly opposing the bible and christianity, he simply ended up getting sucked into the same religious dogma, only from the opposite side. Some of his works where he "redeems" his sins, show that clearly. The prospect of personal growth through Thelema, the power of "do what thou wilt" looks promising, but it's really tough not to descend into pure individualism when using Crowley's teachings for that purpose. That's basically why this kind of occultism attracts me less that wicca.

true enough, he was indeed an odorous character in many respects, and what you say is true. However I have personally found some use in his work. I believe that his system does work and is easy to understand (comparable to other systems) also with regard the destructive individualism you mentioned, his system stipulates that no two people following their true path should, or will clash. Each person is viewed as an indivisible number in themselves. Reality is actually a mathematical formula (or rather a continually unfolding equation growing ever more complex, hence the expansion of the universe from the initial seed input), and those who would wish to live forever are in fact staking a claim (like a bitcoin hash) on a specific indivisible formula. Finding ones authentic formula, (not the false one the Illuminati thrusts upon the masses wholescale), that is the key to immortality and is the only way out. Without this you die a real death, no reincarnation, nothing, as the pyramid heads say "like dogs". Crowley's system is not the only way of finding this human ip address, but it is one of them.
All of humanity could be saved if only they could somehow understand what this information means for them! but that is where I clash with the great all seeing eye, for they would not want this information to proliferate, because they hold a monopoly on immortality itself. They had found out this knowledge a long time ago, but have kept it to themselves, hidden in their mystery religion. This is the true source of their power, and the reason why they try every trick in the book to subdue and dominate humanity, from the top to the very bottom.

I didn't know about this theory of finding your own formula. I do not think this is impossible, but it seems to me that Crowley himself used a more intuitive approach to find his own place in the universe. I may be wrong, because I haven't read through all his works, but didn't he rely more on the emotional, sensual side (like sex magick) rather than on occult diagrams?
In the end, I think both approaches, logical and intuitive, can be successful... Logical is rock solid, there's little to no possibility of error - but it is also very slow and thorough, so life may end before you complete the equation. Intuitive is fast, but difficult to get ahold of, though I think this is what he really used and achieved the desired effect.
