For two weeks or more, Venus has been shining very brightly in the night sky. The planet is almost as lustrous as a street light across a street or two. Have you heard anything about this abnormal radiance, or maybe saw it yourself? Honestly this looks rather creepy, but beautiful too. The Moon is also very bright, as seen from my place, but without it I wouldn't be surprised if Venus alone could give off enough light to cast shadows. If you have good sight, you can also spot Pleiades above Moon and Venus. Some pictures (not mine): I'm also reserving this thread for discussing any other astronomical and meteorological events, like the recent dimming and possible impending supernova of Betelgeuse, or anything else you might find interesting about the sky above us.
