Since when is everyone going off topic for no apparent reason? Don’t get the wrong impression, we still have some standards here, or at least I still have the objective of running a forum with meaningful discussion rather than what resembles the verbal/literary equivalent of primates throwing their own waste .
Anyway speaking of favourite games is anyone a fan of Another world? or Out of this world (as it is known by North Americans), Im not sure if it was mentioned before in the topic (I might have even mentioned it), but seriously, that game is one of the best games ever, and on the topic of "Games as art", I think any real conversation about that has to begin with Eric Chahis game. Also does anyone else think that the Reboot (Anniversary edition) of another world wasn't as good as the original? There was also a sequel (Heart of darkness) which while it had a cool introduction animation, was pretty lame, with very bad pacing and a disappointing story (I’ve completed it).

It's a shame that the reception of From Dust was so lukewarm as it was. I do wonder what Chahi is doing nowadays. Hoping to see more than just more porting of Another World/Out Of This World. If majority of people thought that Skyrim was getting milked with ports, then they haven't seen the list of Another World ports. Man, the North American boxart is just plain awful. I remember loaning an SNES cartridge of it years ago and recognized how silly it was.

I never played From Dust. It could be good, but looking at the visual art on google images, doesn’t really excite me as much as Another world.
When I first played another world, which was probably sometime in the late 90s (on amiga) I thought it was quite a scary game (espically with the switchblade leeches). I wasn’t very good at it back then, but I can finish the game quite easily now. Chahi was great then but I doubt if he’ll ever reach his former glory. You have to sacrifice so much for art and I doubt if these days he’d be prepared to make the required sacrifices, plus now that he’s fairly successful, it actually makes it harder to make those sacrifices. People take on other responsibilities, and art requires total commitment. Back then he wasn’t famous so he would’ve pushed harder I recon, also technologically he had less to work with and somehow that resulted in a better game, because It was distilled to just the essence of what it was supposed to be.

Since when is everyone going off topic for no apparent reason? It was kubus day jinx, 13th of November, so we all had a good ol time with some spam.

Oh ok. I must’ve missed the briefing where SPAM was elected as the official means of celebrating world Kubus day. I would’ve thought it might have been more along the lines of playing a bunch of his games, listening to music and getting fucked up on coke and rum (and possibly hiring a hooker) but what the fuck would I know

nah im not upset. I guess it's difficult to read tone with pure text. Also to clarify, i wasn't endorsing doing any of those things I mentioned, besides playing kubus games of course

Another world is really ahead of it's time. I mean it has no health bars or any kind of head up display and to me it's similar to immersion as Half life - you feel like you're there. I agree, it's a favourite of mine too. and it's not nostalgia at all, because I played it for the first time a couple years ago

Currently playing The Neverhood. it's really good, more fun than i thought apart from a couple irritating puzzles i remember playing it as a kid and being excited from every little animation. the claymation aspect adds so much charm and it somehow feels even more realistic and lively than most adventure games despite how "empty" the world is, mostly due to the amazing animation like the guy in the tv turning and clayman casting a very realisting-looking shadow, little details like that. i also appreciate how different it is from other adventure games, the way the story is told, the puzzles etc. ive only heard legends of "the hallway" and have no idea if the lore is actually as good as people say but just for the idea i give it a 10/10 for creativity. its amazing.

I think the emptiness + eeriness helps make each character and animation exciting to come across, overall making it feel really lively. I love the spooky outdoors crossed with the funky music in the rooms and humour. i also admire how it isnt afraid to be a pain in the butt, like with annoying puzzles and the long hallway.

i recently started playing czech text adventures and its amazing. most of them dont have the usual model of an english text adventure of typing in commands like "go north" but rather give you a couple options on what you can do. im guessing this appears in english text adventures too but im not so familiar with those.
ive just played one called "crypta" and its amazing, its a tongue-in-cheek rpg/adventure game and it has a ton of hidden depth and ways to skip very hard pieces of the game if you are clever early, stuff like that. for example, if you buy a " snake flute" very early in the game in a shop, you can skip every fight encounter in "Snake Mountain" halfway through the game. it also has a fun story, atmosphere etc, very good game!! shame theres no translation but im not sure if most of the jokes would carry through.
