been playing the game hollow knight because I got in the mood for metroidvania type games. when I first began I thought it was not so good, but I think that I have changed my mind.
it begins with pretty much no story and just has you exploring some big underground joint, which is quite nice, as it means you don't have any preconceptions as you are beginning, and you are just kind of exploring for the sake of it, and you see quite a lot of nice funny things. In trailers and stuff it looks like a very edgy and action packed game, but I think that this is not really true of either things, and these are just used to lure people into getting it. really, it is a fairly laid back game, though of course with some exciting bits as well.
The use of colour and such in the game I think is also fairly good in inducing a funny kind of mood in the player, but the actual art I find rather annoying, as it introduces a lot of ambiguity as to what is part of the background and what can be stepped on or is a trap or whatever, which I find quite annoying.
The music gives me the impression the composer never played the game and had very little contact with the developers, though I guess it is not offensive.
I guess what makes the game good is that many of the levels of the game have obviously received a lot of attention, and so it is enjoyable to discover them and think about them. yeah. Some other games of this genre have much less detail, and so I think they would not be any fun for purely exploration purposes. Also there is an underground forest which is a really annoying trope imo and also most of the levels there feel much less loved so it aint so fun to play.

Im checking it out now. I'll get back to you on how I find it. I checked out muscle world. It has an interesting mechanic with holding onto the ceiling and such. A run button would be a nice addition I think.

A run button would be a nice addition I think. I imagine running would consume stamina and as a result I'd probably never do it!

A run button would be a nice addition I think. I imagine running would consume stamina and as a result I'd probably never do it! it's true doing so would violate the games internal logic to some extent . What if you could move faster, but eat up twice the stamina?.. im thinking then it would be impossible to reach the next rest area, perhaps? My suggestion is more from the position of making the game more accessible to a wider audience, but of course it's just a suggestion.

I've been playing Risk of Rain a lot recently, maybe too much; the game is really addictive. I also plan to play La Mulana soon and it seems pretty daunting with having to write stuff down and hard puzzles and such, which I really like and think is cool. I assume after playing it, it will soon become one of my favorite games, if not simply for the idea. Are there any other games that require a lot of effort to solve puzzles or otherwise get through?

Riven is a pretty good one. A lot of adventure games probably. Riven and Myst are actually already on my list of games to play eventually. Thanks for reminding me about them though, I gotta write down a list of games to play somewhere. I don't think I've realized, before recently, the full potential of text files and just writing stuff down in general. It's something I feel I should do much more, as there have been many times where I've just forgotten about stuff to check out.

Great European style gaming. www.lemonamiga.com/?game_id=760That looks really cool. How does the DOS version compare, if you've played it? the dos version is ok, but not quite as good, or at least that was my impression when I played it ages ago. I remember it lacked the cool music and sound effects, though I guess on the plus side I think the loading times were less. In the amiga version you gotta enable 3 drives(if your emulating) and put all 3 disks in at once, otherwise you have to change disks with each battle and that kinda sucks. The game has an experience system where you can level up (each battle gives you 1exp) and the battles get harder depending on what level your at. Normally I hate that sort of thing, (mainly when games present a situation where you need to be at a certain level and pure skills alone can't make up for it) but I think moonstone is always quite "fair" in that the whole game can be beaten without actually leveling up (though fairly hard). It's more about learning the weaknesses and tricks of the various enemies. I love the death animations! I replayed the game the other day and finished it. I think it still stacks up, only issue for me is the game is too easy and over too soon.
